Carolina CoverTech began as a furniture company in 1858 and is still thriving in its third era. Although the focus has evolved from furniture to industrial products, the heart of our company has stayed the same...to make life better for our customers, team members, trade partners and the community in which we serve.
T.I. Bailey founded Bailie’s Furniture Company
Bailie’s was purchased by Clarence Jarrell from Cleveland, Ohio. Jarrell was associated with Astrup Company, a distributor of awning goods and related products. Bailie’s became Astrup’s southern distributor.
Jarrell’s son, Thomas Jarrell, joined the organization.
Astrup builds their own facility in Augusta, Ga.
Bailie’s becomes a distributor for John Boyle and eventually becomes Bailie’s Custom House.
Thomas Jarrell along with two friends, Boykin Wright and Marion (Skip) Jones formed a new company, Bailie’s Canvas Specialties with the goal of expanding the awning business.
Skip Jones buys out Jarrell and Wright’s shares in the company.
Company leadership decides to turn focus from custom one-of-a-kind / one-at-a-time (OOAK/OAAT) fabric products to longer production run manufacturing.
The company constructs and moves into an 18,000 sq ft facility at its current location in North Augusta, SC
Bailie’s Canvas Specialties is rebranded as Carolina CoverTech, better reflecting the “Cover, Protect, Contain and Enclose” nature of its contract manufacturing service offerings
Skip sells the company to his sons, Lee Jones and Rian True.
A 10,000 sq ft addition was added to accommodate the growing production side of the business.
Rian True becomes sole owner of Carolina CoverTech
and Lee starts Custom Covers and Textiles, taking over the awning portion of the business
Carolina CoverTech purchases School Safety Solution, for whom they manufactured Hideaway Helper Lockdown Shades
Carolina CoverTech continues both large-scale and custom contract manufacturing of products that cover, protect, contain and enclose, within industries spanning spill containment, safety, Low Speed Vehicles (LSV) and more.
“I’m proud of the legacy this company holds,” True says. “What’s most important is evolving it in a way that sets employees up for success and helps the people who use our products be better off than they were before; that’s what drives our mission and values."
